The PARS data breach resulted in the sensitive information of certain individuals being compromised.
According to the Attorney General of California, the Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The company designs, implements and administers retirement products designed for public agencies. PARS determined that it was the target of an email phishing attack where an unauthorized party accessed an employee’s email account. PARS secured the email account and launched an investigation that confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed emails and attachments containing consumer information between March 11, 2024 and March 14, 2024. Public Agency Retirement Services reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. On August 29, 2024, PARS sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
