January 9 – The PowerSchool data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C  are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The PowerSchool data breach resulted in unauthorized access to sensitive student and administrator information stored on PowerSource, the company’s community-focused customer support portals. While the total number of affected individuals has not yet been disclosed, the breach impacts multiple school districts across the country.

What Happened As A Result Of The PowerSchool Data Breach?

According to reports, PowerSchool experienced a data security incident when an unauthorized party gained access to their systems. The data breach was discovered on December 28, 2024, though investigation revealed the unauthorized access began on December 19, 2024. In response to the incident, PowerSchool initiated an investigation and began sending notification emails to affected school districts on January 7, 2025.

The company has taken a targeted approach to notifications, sending different communications to affected and unaffected districts. While the full scope of compromised data is still under investigation, PowerSchool has announced plans to provide credit monitoring services to affected adults and identity protection services to minors whose Social Security numbers may have been exposed in the breach.
