October 17 – The North American Steel Tie Corporation d/b/a NARSTCO (“NARSTCO”), a subsidiary of railroad giant RailWorks, data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The NARSTCO data breach resulted in the names, addresses, and Social Security numbers of certain individuals being compromised.
According to the notice filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General, NARSTCO reported a data breach after they detected suspicious activity within their computer network on July 21, 2024. NARSTCO took steps to contain the incident and launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity specialists. This investigation revealed that an unauthorized party was able to access files on NARSTCO’s network that contained sensitive personal information. After identifying the compromised data, NARSTCO underwent a review process to determine which individuals were impacted. On October 14, 2024, NARSTCO sent out data breach notification letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
NARSTCO, or the North American Steel Tie Corporation, is a manufacturing company that produces steel ties for railroads. They are a subsidiary of RailWorks, a larger company that constructs and maintains rail transportation infrastructure. NARSTCO has over 100 employees and an annual revenue of around $34 million. RailWorks, the parent company, has about 1,465 employees and generates $932 million in yearly revenue.
