September 24 – The data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C. are investigating the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (“MetLife”) data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The MetLife data breach resulted in the below information of certain individuals being compromised:

  • names,
  • dates of birth,
  • policy numbers
  • and Social Security numbers

What Happened?

According to the Attorney General of Montana, the MetLife data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. In July 2024, the company was informed by one of their service providers that an unauthorized party accessed the provider’s IT network back on February 22, 2024. An investigation was launched that confirmed that there was unauthorized access to confidential MetLife customer information. MetLife reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. On August 28, 2024, MetLife sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
