The security incident was discovered on December 29, 2023, when the company detected suspicious activity within their computer systems. In response to the discovery, Medusind immediately took affected systems offline and initiated an investigation with assistance from external cybersecurity experts.
The investigation revealed that unauthorized parties had accessed sensitive files containing confidential patient information. The compromised data included names, health insurance and billing information, financial information, medical information, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, dates of birth, email addresses, postal addresses, and phone numbers.
On January 7, 2025, Medusind sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach. The period of unauthorized access appears to have been contained to December 29, 2023.
