According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, the McKenzie Health data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On October 5, 2023, the healthcare system detected suspicious activity within an employee’s email account. McKenzie Health secured its email environment and launched an investigation. It was confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access the employee’s email account between October 2, 2023 and October 4, 2023. As a result, the unauthorized party also obtained access to confidential patient information stored in various emails and attachments. On February 13, 2024, McKenzie Health sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
