It is believed to have impacted as many as 43,324 individuals. The Kovack Financial data breach resulted in the below information of certain individuals being compromised:

  • names;
  • dates of birth;
  • Social Security numbers;
  • driver’s license numbers;
  • passport numbers;
  • state identification numbers;
  • financial account information;
  • license plate recognition data;
  • medical condition or treatment information;
  • health insurance information;
  • and biometric identifiers

What Happened?

According to the Attorney General of Maine, the Kovack Financial data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On September 5, 2023, the company discovered that an unauthorized party gained access to certain company email accounts prompting Kovack Financial to secure its email systems and launch an investigation.

Data Breach AlertIt was confirmed that a third-party vendor was subject to a cyber security issue that impacted personal information belonging to Kovack Financial clients. On June 10, 2024, Kovack Financial confirmed that emails were viewed by an unauthorized party between August 15, 2023 and September 5, 2023. On July 9, 2024, Kovack Financial sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
