August 13 – The data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C. are investigating the Educators Benefit Consultants d/b/a Aviben data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. It is believed to have impacted as many as 39,640 individuals. The Educators Benefit Consultants data breach resulted in the below information of certain individuals being compromised:

  • Social Security numbers,
  • and dates of birth

What Happened?

According to the Attorney General of Maine, the Educators Benefit Consultants data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On February 22, 2024, the company learned that an unauthorized party attempted to access its computer network prompting Aviben to secure its network and launch an investigation. On July 11, 2024, it was confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed sensitive information in the company’s possession through a zero-day vulnerability in a software program used by an external IT provider. Educators Benefit Consultants reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Educators Benefit Consultants is a third-party administrator that contracts with employers to administer employee benefit programs. On August 6, 2024, Educators Benefit Consultants sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
