February 23, 2022 – Recently, Thybar Corporation announced the company’s computer systems were the target of a cyberattack resulting in certain consumer information being compromised. According to a letter to affected consumers, Thybar Corp. noticed suspicious activity on the company’s computer network on October 4, 2021. In response, Thybar launched an internal investigation with the assistance of cybersecurity specialists, confirming that unauthorized parties gained access to certain parts of the company’s network. The period during which the unauthorized parties had access to Thybar Corp. servers was between August 20, 2021 and October 5, 2021. On November 12, 2021, Thybar Corporation began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was contained in the affected files. However, at that time the company’s investigation was still ongoing. Subsequently, Thybar discovered that other individuals were impacted by the breach and, on February 22, 2022, the company sent out another round of data breach notifications to everyone impacted by the breach.

Thybar Corporation (“Thybar Corp.” “Thybar”) is a manufacturing company based in Addison, Illinois. The company fabricates custom sheet metal products that are primarily used in the installation and retrofitting of HVAC equipment. Thybar maintains six production facilities across the United States, including in Addison, IL; Dallas, TX; Akron, OH; Louisville, KY’ Reno, NV; and Jacksonville, FL. The company generates approximately $34 million in annual revenue.

While placing a credit freeze on your accounts may initially seem like a drastic measure, according to the Identity Theft Resource Center (“ITRC”), doing so is the “single most effective way to prevent a new credit/financial account from being opened.” However, ITRC reports that just 3% of consumers whose information is leaked place a freeze on their accounts. Once a credit freeze is in place, you can temporarily lift the freeze if you need to apply for any type of credit.
5. Regularly Monitor Your Credit Report and Financial Accounts: Protecting yourself in the wake of a data breach is not a one-time task. You should continually monitor your credit report and all financial accounts, keeping an eye out for any signs of unauthorized activity or fraud. You may also consider calling your banks and credit card companies to report the fact that your information was compromised in a data breach.
