According to the Attorney General of Massachusetts, the Communication Federal Credit Union data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On January 11, 2024, the credit union identified suspicious activity within its computer network prompting CFCU to secure its system and launch an investigation. It was confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed its network between December 31, 2023 and January 11, 2024, and accessed files containing consumer information. Communication Federal Credit Union reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. On August 12, 2024, Communication Federal Credit Union sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
