October 29 – The Center for Urban Community Services (“CUCS”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The Center for Urban Community Services data breach resulted in the names, addresses, Social Security numbers, telephone numbers, dates of birth, benefit identification numbers, health information, and prescription information of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 38,000 individuals.
According to a report with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, CUCS experienced a data breach when unauthorized actors gained access to their network systems. The company’s internal detection systems identified suspicious activity on September 9, 2023, triggering an investigation. It was confirmed that unauthorized access occurred between September 4, 2023, and September 10, 2023, during which time sensitive data was acquired from CUCS’ systems. The Center for Urban Community Services will send out data breach letters to affected individuals, particularly those who received services through the New York Department of Health and Human Hygiene and the New York Department of Social Services.
