November 26 – The Vann Virginia Center for Orthopaedics, PC d/b/a Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists (“Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company experienced unauthorized access to their email system. The Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists data breach resulted in sensitive patient information being compromised, including names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, state identification numbers, credit/debit card information, medical information, and health insurance information. It is believed to have impacted as many as 15,264 individuals.

What Happened As A Result Of The Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists Data Breach?

According to the notice filed with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists discovered unauthorized access to a corporate email account on August 6, 2024. An investigation revealed that an unauthorized party had gained access to certain emails and attachments containing confidential patient information between June 20, 2024 and August 6, 2024.

Upon discovery, the company immediately contained the threat and launched an investigation with the assistance of external cybersecurity experts. After a thorough review of the compromised files, the company identified affected individuals and the scope of the exposed information on October 24, 2024.

Around November 22, 2024, Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists began sending out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach, providing detailed information about the incident and the specific types of personal data that may have been compromised.
