According to the Attorney General of California, the Assurance IQ data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On February 12, 2024, the company learned that an agent inappropriately used their credentials to access Assurance’s agent systems and shared information about certain consumers for an unauthorized use. The employee’s access was disabled, the employee was fired, and an investigation was launched. It was confirmed that the employee accessed information belonging to policyholders, beneficiaries, and prospective customers for an unauthorized purpose between April 1, 2022 and January 11, 2024. On March 4, 2024, Assurance IQ sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
